#5for5
To celebrate UN Children’s Day, I’m supporting Theirworld’s #5for5 campaign, all about the importance of investing in early childhood development, the 0 – 5 years. Because it’s time to stand up for kids who haven’t yet mastered standing.
#5for5 is Theirworld’s global campaign about early childhood development. Showing the world the importance that the years from birth to five play on the rest of our lives, we’ll celebrate the power of small actions and give people a way to stand up for children who might not even have mastered standing.
About the #5for5 campaign
We aim to raise awareness of early childhood development and put pressure on world leaders to take urgent action to make sure all young children have access to the care they need, including nutrition, health, learning, play and protection.
5 seconds. 5 steps. 5 goals. It’s all #5for5.
By the time a child reaches five years old, 90% of their brain has already developed – which means the progression from birth to school is the most important time of their lives.
But around the world children from poorer and marginalised households are unable to access the support and care they need and are put at a disadvantage. Those who start school at five without early years support can have a limited vocabulary and ability to learn, impacting their opportunities in later life.
Theirworld’s #5for5 campaign urges world leaders to commit to a dramatic increase in funding and take action to support early childhood development programmes to make sure all children are given the best start in life.
